SMS: Site Management System
At the start of the campaign in 2001, we found that there was no professional information available to tourists. A flyer was developed and distributed to the tourists for free. The flyer provided information about the monument and the NDP project.
More serious was the lack of a routing system for tourists. The tourists climbed everywhere. As part of the NDP Emergency Plan a tourist routing was planned and implemented in 2002. The routing system consists of a combination of convenient walking paths, bordered by a fence of poles and chains. The system guides the tourists around the statues and reliefs. Clearly, this was an emergency measure not complying with the standards expected of a World Heritage Monument.
